Kenneth J. Hoar Obituary

Kenneth J. Hoar, 75, of Burton, OH, went home to be with the Lord in the house that he built to raise his family in Thursday evening, February 26th, 2026. He was born in Cleveland, OH on November 29th, 1950, to the late James and Lillian (Krause) Hoar. Ken later married his best friend and love of his life, Kathleen Campbell on February 19th, 1977.

To make a long story short…

Kenny graduated from West Geauga High School. He then entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War. He formed a lifelong special bond with those he served with and helped many other Veterans apply and obtain benefits from the VA.

He was a building contractor who had a strong Christian faith and was a great mentor and role model to his children.

Kenny loved spending time with his family and friends. He hosted annual harvest parties that would bring everyone together. While together, Kenny always took the opportunity to tell great stories and show off all the stupid things he collected like his 4 dummies (not his kids). He enjoyed each meal and getting ice cream with his grandkids.

He liked listening to classic rock music, boating, going on family vacations, snowmobiling, and riding dirt bikes with his kids as they grew up. Kenny also enjoyed taking Kathy just on short weekend getaways and going hunting with his sons.

Kenny was a person who lit up every room he walked in. He was very out-going and would become friends with everyone he met.

He will be greatly missed by: his loving wife of 49 years, Kathy; children, Joel (Lindsey) Hoar, Ryan (Samantha) Hoar, Scott (Aimee) Hoar, Erin (Dan) Hoar Detwiler; grandchildren, Campbell, Jonathan, Alison-Claire, Liam, Ella, Harper, Frankie, Charlie, Morgan, Daniel; siblings, Charles (Debbie) Hoar, Joyce Bosley, Sally (Bob) Boveington; and many niece, nephews, and friends.

Ken is preceded in death by: his parents; siblings, Ellen (Richard) Svoboda, Eileen (Roger) Schaffert; and daughter-in-law, Mollie Hoar.

A Graveside Service will be held at a later date in Welton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made in Ken’s memory to either, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society at https://www.nmcrs.org or the Geauga County Historical Society at https://centuryvillagemuseum.org.
